Getting Your API Key

Wunderful connects directly to the Weather Underground API. To get started, you'll need a free API key from Weather Underground. Here's how to get one.

What You'll Need

  • A Weather Underground account (free to create)
  • A registered Personal Weather Station (PWS) on your account

Already have an API key? If you've previously used the Weather Underground API or have a PWS registered on your account, you can find your existing key at wunderground.com/member/api-keys.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Create a Weather Underground account Visit wunderground.com/signup and register for a free account. If you already have an account, sign in instead.
  2. Navigate to your devices Once logged in, click your profile name in the top-right corner and select My Profile. Then navigate to the My Devices tab.
  3. Register your Personal Weather Station If you haven't already registered your PWS, click the button to add a new device. Enter your station's address, select your device type, and complete the registration. Weather Underground will assign a station ID (e.g., KGADACUL2).
  4. Get your API key Navigate to the API Keys tab on your profile page, or go directly to wunderground.com/member/api-keys. Your API key will be listed here — it's a 32-character string.
  5. Enter your credentials in Wunderful Open Wunderful on your iPhone or Mac and go to Settings. Enter your API key and station ID. Wunderful will immediately start fetching your weather data.

Keep your API key private. Your key is stored securely in your device's system Keychain — never in plain text. Don't share your API key publicly.

Finding Your Station ID

Your station ID is assigned when you register your PWS with Weather Underground. You can find it on the My Devices page of your Weather Underground account. It typically looks like KGADACUL2 — a short alphanumeric code starting with a letter.

You can also find nearby stations by searching on the Weather Underground map and clicking on station markers to see their IDs.

Troubleshooting

  • API key not working? Double-check that you've copied the full 32-character key with no extra spaces.
  • No data showing? Make sure your station ID is correct and that your PWS is actively reporting data to Weather Underground.
